Managing Consent during the Apartheid Era

How was it possible for the Apartheid government to maintain the Apartheid  ideology in the face of fierce international pressure on the political and economic front? One mechanism of resisting international pressure and maintaining the consent of the white minority was the written word. And here the media played a pivotal role. The media itself was subjected to censorship. It was furthermore used to discredit critics and opponents of Apartheid. The media was also used to promulgate and affirm the views of conservatives that supported the Apartheid state. I use a Critical Discourse Analysis approach to investigate the role of the media in maintaining Apartheid.
